The Cellar The Inn offers a wide and fine wine list, where labels of the region are widely represented, with a focus on local grape varieties such as Albana, Pagadebit and Rebola and the Romagna wine par excellence: the SANGIOVESE. The story goes that in one of the hills between Montalbano and Santarcangelo, Mount Jovis, some monks produced wine offered to travelers as the Sanguis Jovis … or Sangiovese di Romagna.

In the cellar, along with the reds, you will find the “BOLLICINE” (sparkling) to open the evening, the “AMABILI” and “PASSITI” to accompany the desserts and the end of lunch or dinner. Gaia Food Academy tricks and reviews
The holiday in Emilia Romagna is always cheerful, like its inhabitants … The Emiliani and the Romagnoli are a lively people, always smiling often with the typical face of healthy life, humble and never snob, they make you feel pampered in a 4-star hotel like in a farmhouse, they are good people who still hold to the values of life, that will guarantee you special holidays, like them that still have a soul and make you remember that you have one too.

The Emilia Romagna is one of the most varied regions: we find miles of white beach with a sea, mistreated in urban legends, but now more and more deserving, discos and clubs for those who love nightlife, the promenade where well dressed singles of all ages slowly walk up and down, the bathing establishments with their “sort of” restaurants with greased wooden tables that, if you lean on your elbows, will stick to you all day, but here is fine … it’s not sticky, it’s typical and well suited to the piadine with rocket and squacquerone and to the incredible spaghetti with clams … it’s worth it.

The smell of grilled meat makes you feel at home while sipping a good red wine while admiring San Marino that rises on Mount Titano; here you can also take care and treat yourself well in Salsomaggiore, the temple of thermal wellness where time stops and you can recharge with new energy … but after the spa what makes you feel better than a little shopping? Grab the chance! The Fidenza Village is one of the best luxury outlets, a real outdoor shopping village with exclusive boutiques.

For the fans there are evocative medieval villages and castles. If you want a bewitched castle the Montebello, it can also be visited inside, is linked to the legend of Azzurrina, handed down orally and then certainly far from the original: it is said that Azzurrina was an albino girl, in the 1300s popular superstition linked albinism with witchcraft; to protect her, her father always had her escorted by two guards and never let her leave the house; June 21, 1375 Azzurrina played inside the castle with a ball of rags, to chase it she fell into the underground icehouse, the child was never found and her ghost is still trapped in the castle; since then every five years at the summer solstice she returns to be heard… brrrrrrr

Surroundings

Blu Entrance: Sharks, Penguins, Trigons and Jellyfish are just some of the many protagonists of this exciting journey. The blue entrance is an immersion in the history and in the biological evolution of the planet: some tanks host species still surviving after millions of years, like the great sharks considered living fossils. It is a journey around the world but below the surface of the water!

Yellow Entrance: Tender and playful, the Asian small-clawed otter, Aonyx cinerea, is the smallest otter in the world! These Asian small-clawed otters are recognizable, above all, by their front legs that they use to feed on mollusks, crabs and other small aquatic animals.

Green Entrance: Snakes live in close contact with the ground, detaching only when they swim. Thanks to this position they perceive the sound vibrations and follow the odorous tracks. The style of life of a snake can be deduced from the shape of his body. Ophidians, the snakes, comprise almost 3,000 different species, from a few centimeters to 10 meters in length.

Purple entrance  The strangest creatures of the Planet, strange and unknown beings, are the protagonists of the exhibition ‘Abysses: Alien Earth’ at the purple entrance of the Aquarium. The marine ecosystem is the largest environment on earth. In the oceans, sunlight only penetrates up to 200 meters. Proceeding downwards, the water temperature tends to decrease. The deep sea is an extreme environment, inhabited by a few organisms for the most part still unknown. With this exhibition we try to make known the wonders and the incredible forms of life of the abysses.
These species are shaped by pressure from absolute darkness and frost, they have incredible shapes, they seem to belong to an alien and imaginary world. The protagonists are the specimens of the abyssal fauna. These include the 13 meters giant squid. Visit the Cattolica Aquarium website

SAN MARINO

San Marino offers its visitors the rare sensation of being in Italy and abroad at the same time. The capital of the tiny state – City of San Marino – is perfect for a weekend or a day trip, even based in a hotel on the nearby Adriatic coast. Whether you are interested in history, sport, nature walks, you are fanatical of medieval architecture or shopping (in San Marino many things cost less than in Italy, and there are several outlets available …), that you travel as a couple or with the children, the small Republic of San Marino will not disappoint you!

La Rocca o Guaita (First Tower)
On the emblem of the Republic of San Marino is represented Monte Titano with the three fortresses that dominate the City of San Marino. The First Tower, the main one, also called La Rocca or Guaita, dates back to the 11th century. It can be visited every day, and is one of the most beloved monuments of the small state of San Marino.

Cesta o Fratta (Second Tower) From the First Tower you can also easily see the crenellated walls of the Second Tower, called Cesta or Fratta. The Cesta dates back to the Middle Ages, and stands on the summit of Mount Titano, the highest point of San Marino (755 meters above sea level). La Cesta also houses the Museum of Ancient Weapons of San Marino, an armory that welcomes over 700 weapons from different eras: for those traveling with children it’s a good idea, especially if the weather does not help!

Third Tower (Montale) With a pentagonal plan, the Third Tower of San Marino (called Montale) was completed in the second half of the fifteenth century. Smaller (in fact it appears on the 1 cent coin!), the Third Tower housed a prison (called Fondo della Torre), and is not currently open for visit. It is however worth to go for the view and for the pleasant path that reaches it.

Old Town Your exploration of San Marino can not start from the historic center of the City of San Marino, the true heart of the Republic. A walk through the medieval houses and shops, with sudden openings on the surrounding landscape and the view that goes to the sea, is mandatory for all tourists of the small state. Many visitors do not miss shopping, since in San Marino different products cost much less. Take advantage!

Basilica of San Marino The current building dates back to the nineteenth century, but this building housed a small church dedicated to the saint as early as the sixth century. According to legend San Marino was a stonemason from Dalmatia, who took refuge in a cave on Mount Titano to escape the persecutions of the Romans. He would have pronounced, before dying, the famous motto “Relinquo vos liberos ab utroque homine”, that is: “I leave you free from both men”, that is the Pope and the Emperor, giving life to the independence of the small State.

Monte Titano and Cableway Monte Titano and the historic center of San Marino became part of the UNESCO heritage in 2008: there is no better way to discover the San Marino cliff than with a nice walk. The most trained can cross the upper part of the mountain, following a path of about 4 kilometers and reaching the towers and other panoramic points; those who do not want to walk will love a trip on the cableway that reaches the upper part of the mountain: the view is spectacular.

Museum of Curiosities Along the Salita alla Rocca there is the Museum of Curiosities, without a doubt the strangest museum in San Marino (and one of the strangest that you will visit). In full Guinness World Records style, you can discover the history of the fattest man in the world, the lowest woman (barely 59 centimeters!) and observe some bizarre objects: a nineteenth-century flea trap, a nose watch (would you tell the time by sniffing?), a seventeenth century shower and silver Chinese nail covers …

Ravenna Ravenna is a treasure chest of art, history and culture, a city with ancient origins and a glorious past. From the beginning of the 5th century, the city has been the capital of the declining Western Roman Empire (AD 402-403), of Theodoric’s reign (AD 493-526) and of the Byzantine Empire (AD 553-751).

The richest heritage of mosaics in the world, preserved in the basilicas and baptisteries of the city, is a clear evidence of that extraordinary period. For their universal value and the uniqueness of their mosaics, eight monuments of Ravenna have been included in the UNESCO World Heritage List, namely Mausoleum of Galla Placidia, Neonian Baptistery, Arian Baptistery, Basilica of Sant’Apollinare Nuovo, Chapel of Sant’Andrea or Archiepiscopal Chapel, Mausoleum of Theoderic, Basilica of San Vitale and Basilica of Sant’Apollinare in Classe.

But the city is much more. The great variety of landscapes surrounding Ravenna ranges from farmlands with fruit groves, marshes and canals flanked by typical fishing nets to centuries-old pinewoods overlooking sandy, well-equipped beaches. Nine unique seaside resorts stretch along its 30-km long coastline. Its beaches offer a wide range of facilities and leisure activities, such as games, sports and fitness, walks and rides, amusement parks (e.g. Mirabilandia), as well as sunshine, relax and culinary delights.

GRADARA CASTLE

MALATESTA FORTRESS Of ladies, cavaliers, of arms and love, Their courtesies, their bold exploits…
With these words borrowed from Orlando Furioso we are ready to visit the majestic Rocca di Gradara. The Rocca is one of the best preserved examples of medieval fortification in Italy. Born as a military fortress, it was transformed into a majestic noble residence by the powerful families that succeeded each other in the domination of the territory: the Malatesta, the Sforza and the Della Rovere families.

The path inside the complex winds through a series of evocative environments starting from the of Honor Courtyard, inside which overlooks the Keep or main tower that houses the Torture Room, and then continues in the apartments on the main floor with the following rooms: the Sigismondo and Isotta’s Salon, the Passion Room, the Lucrezia Borgia’s dressing room, the Cardinal’s Chamber, the Cherubs Room, the Council Room, the Francesca’s Chamber, the Noble’s Chapel, the Guardhouse.

The visit to the military and residential areas of the fortress is accompanied by the memory of the events of the many historical figures who lived within its walls: Giovanni Sforza and the “poisoner” Lucrezia Borgia, Sigismondo Malatesta and his beloved Isotta. But the fame and fortune of the Rocca are above all related to the legendary and tragic love story between Paolo and Francesca, the unfortunate lovers sung by Dante in the V Canto of the Inferno, who within their walls consumed their passion and found the death.

PATROL WALKWAY The walls surround the castle in a double ring, protecting and making the superb fortress impregnable. They are interspersed with square towers and are covered in all their perimeter by patrol walkways necessary to watch over the castle and the entire territory.

HISTORY MUSEUM The Gradara Museum contains documents and objects that testify to the changes that left deep marks in the history of the place; particular attention is paid to the official history that sees the Rocca di Gradara, theater of the tragedy and passion of “Paolo and Francesca”.

Milzetti Palace in Faenza is the richest and most complete example of that elegant architectural and decorative civilization that flourished in Faenza in the Neoclassical age, making it a small capital of taste.
On the ground floor we visit the rooms where Count Francesco Milzetti lived and the library, of simple and functional elegance.
Then you enter the famous oval ante-bathroom, one of the masterpieces of the well-known artist Felice Giani inspired by the Herculanian decorations.
The dining room has two long walls enlivened by just outlined apses and decorated with motifs such as the vine leaf and the acorn.
You enter the main floor from the simple and solemn staircase, which leads with an effect of calculated surprise in the vast Octagonal Hall called Temple of Apollo.
Then visit the Sala delle Feste or Achille Gallery, where there is a cozy lounge with a fireplace and then the bedroom of the couple, with a suggestive night motif.
Visit the Milzetti Palace website

Faenza among ceramics, ceramics of Faenza boasts a centuries-old tradition that still continues to be of considerable importance as an expression of craftsmanship and industry. Due to its geographical position, which makes it a meeting point between the Po Valley and the Tuscan culture, the city has been able to establish itself as a ceramics center of primary importance since the Middle Ages. The fame of these Faenza products is such that majolica is known all over the world with the French name of Faience.

Brisighella is an ancient thirteenth-century village set in the heart of the Apennines between Florence and Ravenna. Brisighella is an ideal place for a peaceful holiday. Art, history and architecture merge, in fact, harmoniously giving life to a center of extraordinary beauty where, between narrow and characteristic alleys, stretches of boundary walls and stairways carved into plaster, time seems to have stopped at the medieval period.
Moving towards the real heart of Brisighella we find the famous Via del Borgo, an elevated and covered road dating back to the twelfth century that was probably the oldest defensive bulwark to protect the village. Famous for its unique architecture with its arched windows that give it light, it is also known as Via degli Asini (Donkeys Street) for the custom of letting the caravans of animals, used to transport the material from the nearby gypsum quarries, pass through this street. Even the historic center is of particular interest, characterized by some elements of great importance.
But beyond its architectural aspect, Brisighella is also an ideal place for a stay of therapeutic relaxation thanks to the waters of its thermal baths, or for a few days of hiking, immersed in the natural beauties of the Regional Park of Vena del Gesso, one of the most characteristic geographical and geological features of the Romagna Apennines. A small village, in short, that hides a lot of surprises and that is really able to satisfy the most varied tastes.

Rimini: holiday area par excellence, Rimini boasts a long tourist tradition. It was in fact in 1843 that the first bathing establishment in Italy was inaugurated on the beach of Rimini. Since then, over the years, this vocation of hospitality spread from Rimini along the coast, from Riccione to Cattolica, from Bellaria to Misano. Rimini has also recorded a progressive tourist enhancement of its hinterland which, thanks to its natural beauties, historical attractions and artisanal and gastronomic traditions, offers a valid integration of the seaside holiday.
This land, in fact, is rich in relics of the past, memory of a very old history that dates back to ancient Rome. Etruscan and Celtic city, a Roman Empire colonia of the year 268 B.C., Imperial Roman town at the time of Augustus, Rimini was endowed with splendid monuments. Later, during the Renaissance, it was the capital of the Lordship of the Malatesta and knew the splendors of a magnificent court and the presence of architects, painters and sculptors among the most famous in Italy.

The Arch of Augustus and the Tiberius Bridge, the Malatesta Temple and the Sigismondo Fortress in Rimini, the numerous castles and the ancient churches built on the hills of the hinterland, represent an artistic and cultural heritage that is worth knowing.
Do not miss a visit to the City Museum that preserves the past of Rimini and its territory, from geological formation to our days, through fifteen hundred works. A stone’s throw from the Museum, a Roman dwelling called Domus del Chirurgo (House of the Surgeon) has recently been brought to light, a small Pompeii with its splendid mosaics and an exceptional surgical-pharmaceutical kit, considered the richest in the world since ancient times .

Cesenatico: To fully enjoy the quality and beauty of this territory we propose an itinerary through Cesenatico starting from the Zadina Pine Forest, which extends for 3.5 hectares close to the beach, after which we meet the large Park of Ponente, with an extension of 13 hectares almost completely tree-lined.
Continuing along the coast you arrive up to the pier, at the root of which opens the large Piazza Spose dei Marinai (Sailors’ Brides square), overlooking the sea, where a bronze group depicts a mother who, together with the children, looks at the horizon to see her husband’s boat.
Turning around the tourist dock we reach the Wholesale Fish Market, where frantic bargaining is intertwined when fishers returns. We are now in the Historic Center, which is developed around the Leonardo’s Canal Port, the heart of the city.
In the section of the inner canal closed between the two bridges there is the floating section of the Maritime Museum, completed by the ground section that is located in two buildings that overlook the water.

Here are preserved fishing and transport boats, as well as objects and testimonies of the traditional sailing navy of the Adriatic; in summer the museum’s boats hoist their colorful sails.
In the opposite corner, beyond the bridge over the canal, you can visit Casa Moretti, birthplace of the writer Marino Moretti, which he left as a legacy to the Municipality of Cesenatico so that, together with original furnishings and numerous prints, his books and autograph papers were kept.
Behind Casa Moretti there is the Municipal Theater, one of the most beautiful in Romagna. On the opposite eastern side of the canal port, behind the ancient Pescheria (fish shop) still in use, is the picturesque Piazzetta delle Conserve, which owes its name to the very special underground constructions dating back to the seventeenth century, a real “cold storage” in which the fish could be kept for long periods.
Proceeding towards the beach you arrive at the Giardini al Mare, equipped with lawns, gazebos, fountains and games for children. Between the city center and the hamlet of Valverde, the large Levante Park extends for 4 hectares, where there are also two lakes with royal swans, mandarin ducks, water moorhens and numerous fish varieties; a playground, a fitness trail, a catering center and the organization of recreational activities complete the park’s infrastructure.
